Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival – Entebbe to Kampala
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you’ll be greeted by your guide and transferred to your accommodation in Kampala for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Kampala – Bwindi Impenetrable National Forest
Today, your driver/guide will pick you up and head towards Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Enjoy lunch en route. Bwindi is renowned for its mountain gorillas, with more than half of the world’s population residing here. The park also boasts exceptional bird life, with 348 species recorded and 24 out of 26 Albertine Rift endemics present. Get a good night’s rest in preparation for tomorrow’s gorilla tracking adventure.
Day 3: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Forest
After a hearty breakfast, proceed to the ranger station by 8:00 AM for your gorilla tracking experience. Guides will lead you through the forest, navigating dense vegetation to find the gorillas. The trek can last from 30 minutes to 5 hours, so ensure you’re in good shape and have sturdy footwear. Witness the impressive silverback and enjoy this rare opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures.
Day 4: Bwindi Forest N.P – Parc National Des Volcans, Rwanda
Following breakfast, drive through the scenic hills of Kabale to Parc National Des Volcans in Rwanda. Remember to adjust your watches, as Rwanda is one hour behind Uganda, and driving is on the right side of the road.
Day 5: Gorilla Tracking in Parc National Des Volcans
After breakfast, visit the Rwanda Gorilla office for a briefing before embarking on your gorilla tracking adventure. The trek can take between 30 minutes and 5 hours. If time permits in the afternoon, enjoy a community walk in Ruhengeri. Marvel at the lush landscapes and diverse wildlife during your tracking experience.
Day 6: Rwanda – Lake Bunyonyi
Depart for Lake Bunyonyi after breakfast. This picturesque lake, situated at about 2000 meters above sea level, is known for its scenic beauty, small islands, and terraced hills. It’s a great spot for bird watching, especially water birds.
Day 7: Lake Bunyonyi – Queen Elizabeth National Park
Start the day with a canoe ride on Lake Bunyonyi. Afterward, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, covering 1978 square kilometers in the western arm of the Great East African Rift Valley. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, hippos, and more. Enjoy an afternoon game drive and perhaps spot the famous tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector.
Day 8: Queen Elizabeth National Park
Begin the day with a visit to Kyambura Gorge for chimpanzee tracking. Expect to see various primates and other wildlife. After lunch, embark on a launch cruise on the Kazinga Channel, connecting Lake George to Lake Edward. The cruise lasts approximately 2 hours, followed by an evening game drive.
Day 9: Queen Elizabeth N.P – Kibale Forest National Park
Early this morning, go for a game drive as you depart for Kibale Forest National Park. Known for its high density of primates, Kibale Forest is a prime location for chimpanzee tracking. If time allows, explore the Bunyaruguru craters in Fort Portal.
Day 10: Kibale National Park
Today, embark on a chimpanzee tracking expedition in the morning. Enjoy the diverse birdlife and other species in the forest. In the afternoon, take a guided walk through Bigodi Swamp, known for its rich vegetation and bird species.
Day 11: Kibale National Park to Murchison Falls National Park
Depart for Murchison Falls National Park after breakfast. This vast park, the largest in Uganda, is divided by the River Nile, which creates the dramatic Murchison Falls. Enjoy a game drive upon arrival and check into your accommodation.
Day 12: Budongo Forest Chimpanzee Tracking
Explore Murchison Falls National Park, observing its diverse wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, and lions. In the afternoon, head to Budongo Forest for chimpanzee tracking. Return to Masindi for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 13: Murchison Falls to Kampala
After breakfast, travel to Kampala with a stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola. Learn about rhinos and the sanctuary’s conservation efforts before arriving in Kampala for your evening stay.
Day 14: Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary
This morning, take a boat ride to Ngamba Island on Lake Victoria, home to 39 chimpanzees. Enjoy a briefing and witness the feeding of the chimps, observing their interactions and unique personalities. Afterward, return to the airport for your departure flight.
